Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom says it is preparing to evacuate the second group of family members and some personnel involved in the construction of Units 2 and 3 of the Bushehr nuclear power plant from Iran to Russia.
According to Russia’s state-run TASS news agency, Alexey Likhachev, the company’s CEO, told the Strana Rosatom newspaper that the transportation of the group to “a safe location” will happen “soon”.
“Our priority in the current situation in Iran is to ensure the safety of Russian personnel working on the construction of Units 2 and 3 of the Bushehr nuclear power plant. This number amounts to more than 600 people,” he was quoted as saying.
“For obvious reasons, the main construction work on the site has been temporarily suspended. At the same time, some personnel are engaged in servicing and maintaining equipment, as well as completing work that cannot be stopped immediately,” he added.
“We have completed preparations for the second stage of workforce optimisation, namely, the evacuation of family members and some personnel to Russia. We will be transporting them to a safe location shortly,” Likhachev said.
